Ce numéro commémore le centenaire de l’édition du Coran du Caire, réalisée en 1924 sous le patronage du roi Fuʾād d’Égypte. Largement passée inaperçue au moment même de sa publication, cette édition coranique s’est pourtant imposée comme référence des études islamologiques occidentales. Le florilège d’articles proposés, catégorisés sous les sections « texte », « histoire » et « perspectives », est en grande partie issu des contributions faites au colloque dédié à cette question, organisé en novembre 2021 par l’Institut dominicain d’études orientales et financé par la Délégation de l’union européenne au Caire. Il offre une réflexion pluridisciplinaire — et trilingue — autour des enjeux religieux et politiques de cette édition uthmanienne du Coran, mêlant analyse historique du contexte de production et de l’imprimerie égyptienne, paléographie et géopolitique religieuse.

This issue commemorates the centenary of the Cairo edition of the Quran, produced in 1924 under the patronage of King Fuʾād of Egypt. Largely unnoticed at the very time of its publication, this Quranic edition has nonetheless established itself as a reference in Western Islamic studies. The anthology of articles it offers, categorized by “text”, “history”, and “perspectives”, is largely drawn from the contributions made at a conference on this topic held at the Dominican Institute of Oriental Studies in November 2021 and funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Cairo. It offers a multidisciplinary—and trilingual—reflection on the religious and political issues surrounding this Uthmani edition of the Quran, combining analyses of the historical context of its production, Egyptian printing, palaeography, and geopolitics of religion.
